FUN RUN

Well last year the run went to Tanfield Railway and if you went along with us  I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.

Seeing so many of you grinning on the steam train and in the engine sheds was great!

But where to go this year…. Hmmm

Just over the Pennines, down some very nice roads (Watch out for cattle grids, mad sheep and rabbits) is an excellent place called KILLHOPE lead mining museum.

Now remembering you lot last year I hope you’ll find this place just as interesting. With your Stormin’ wrist band you will be able to wander around the ‘surface’ looking at various bits of restored and working mining equipment, play on a water wheel or  have a wonder in the woods where you may even see a red squirrel or two (oh by the way DO try the café… even if there is a queue…)

If you wish to go down the mine … do you like the dark?…. then show them your Stormin’ wristband and for a fee of JUST £2.00, to cover the loan of hard hats etc you will be taken down the mine on a guided tour. The tour takes 1 hour so please allow for that , it is well worth it and would usually cost £6.50 for an adult.

OK now for the details;

For those of you wanting some help in finding your way there, please come to the main gate for 11am where marshals will be waiting to escort you to Killhope.

Hopefully the weather will be kind and the route will take us over Hamsterley Common (see earlier note about sheep etc).

If the weather is not great then there is an easier route, A688 to Bishop Auckland, left onto the A68 (North bound), past the old Witton Castle site (wave nicely), left onto the A689 and keep following the A689 till you see the signs for Killhope lead mining museum, it’s just off the A689.

Good weather or bad there will be a group of marshals going from the site to Killhope, as you enjoy the ride please watch out for us marshals we may need to pass you so please check your mirrors, as you enjoy the scenery.

Have fun, hope to see you on the run

ONE LAST POINT … PLEASE make sure you have enough fuel, site to site longest route is 40miles.
